DAY 1: Kilimanjaro - Arusha
Karibu Tanzania! Your driver-guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport for the transfer to Arusha, gateway to the Northern Circuit. Check in at Arusha Coffee Lodge, a cluster of plantation houses set within a working coffee estate on the slopes of Mount Meru. Spend the afternoon exploring the coffee gardens, at the pool or on the terrace, then join your guide for a full safari briefing this evening. Dinner is at leisure.
DAY 2: Arusha - Mto wa Mbu Cultural Day - Karatu
Early in the morning, drive west along the Great Rift Valley to Mto wa Mbu, a market town shared by more than 120 tribes. A guided bicycle ride through rice paddies and banana groves leads into a walking visit of the village. Explore its homes, market stalls, banana-beer brewers, wood carvers and Tinga Tinga painters, and finish with a Swahili lunch cooked by local mamas. In the afternoon, climb the escarpment to Karatu and check in at The Manor at Ngorongoro, a Cape Dutch-style estate on a 1,500-acre coffee farm bordering the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
DAY 3: Tarangire National Park - Maasai Village
A full day in Tarangire National Park, where ancient baobabs shade some of East Africa's largest elephant herds. Track the river for lion, leopard, buffalo, giraffe and zebra, with a picnic lunch in the park. On the return drive, stop at a Maasai boma for a firsthand look at traditional dance and homestead life, before a fine-dining dinner back at The Manor.
DAY 4: Lake Eyasi - Hadzabe & Datoga Tribes
Start your day early for Lake Eyasi and one of Africa's rarest cultural encounters: a morning hunt with the Hadzabe, among the last hunter-gatherer tribes on Earth, followed by a visit to the Datoga blacksmiths and their traditional metalwork. Back in Karatu, unwind with a farm visit, coffee tasting, horseback ride or a spa treatment on your final afternoon in the highlands.
DAY 5: Ngorongoro Crater - Central Serengeti
Descend 600 metres into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage caldera holding some 25,000 animals and one of the best places on Earth to find black rhino, alongside lion, elephant, hippo and flamingo-fringed soda lakes. After a picnic lunch on the crater floor, cross the highlands past Olduvai Gorge and into the Serengeti, arriving at Four Seasons Safari Lodge, with its infinity pool overlooking a busy elephant waterhole.
DAY 6: Central Serengeti
A full day in the Seronera Valley, the Serengeti's big-cat heartland. Enjoy a day full of game drives: morning, afternoon, or out all day with a picnic lunch. Track lion prides, leopard draped in the sausage trees, cheetah on the open plains, elephant and giraffe. For a more elevated safari experience, add a sunrise hot-air balloon safari for a bird's-eye view.
DAY 7: Central Serengeti - Kogatende, Northern Serengeti
Drive north through shifting terrain: savannah, hills, riverine forest and granite kopjes and into the Kogatende region, game driving en route. This is the front line of the Great Migration's July–August river crossings, when over a million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra masses along the Mara River. Arrive at Serengeti Bushtops, your camp for the next five nights: vast sunset-facing tents with private butlers and outdoor hot tubs, moments from the crossing points.
DAYS 8-11: The Great Migration - Mara River Crossings
Your safari highlight. Four days built entirely around the Mara River crossings, witnessing wildebeest by the thousand plunging into crocodile-filled water while predators watch from the banks. Game drives run flexibly from morning to evening with picnic lunches in the bush, and beyond the crossings the Northern Serengeti delivers strong resident sightings of lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and eland, in one of the park's most beautiful, least-crowded corners. Evenings end around the campfire under an open sky.
DAY 12: Kogatende - Arusha
One last sunrise game drive, then a scenic flight from Kogatende back to Arusha. Enjoy lunch and time for last-minute souvenirs before your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for the flight home.
