Count the decisions inside a twelve-day trip and the number climbs quickly. Which city comes first, how many nights each one deserves, which hotel sits close enough to walk to dinner, whether the train beats the private transfer, which morning stays free and which one starts at seven. Most travelers make dozens of these calls before they ever leave Manila. A standard package tour makes the rest of them for you, without asking.
A custom journey works the other way around. At Access Travel, custom travel planning in the Philippines starts with how you want the trip to feel, and every decision after that is made on your behalf with your answer already in mind. Here is what that difference looks like in practice, from the first conversation to the flight home.
What is a custom journey? A custom journey is a private itinerary designed around one traveler or one group, shaped by your pace, preferences, and dates, rather than a fixed route sold to many people at once.
The Problem With Standard Package Tours
Package tours exist to serve many travelers at the same time, and that is both their strength and their limit. The route is set months in advance. The coach leaves at the same hour whether you slept well or not. The hotel was chosen because it can fit a large group and sits near the highway, and lunch is wherever forty people can be seated together.
For a first trip abroad, that structure can feel reassuring. For travelers who know what they want, it starts to feel like someone else's vacation. Hours go to shopping stops nobody asked for. A city you love gets one rushed afternoon, while a city you could easily skip gets two full days. A parent who needs a slower morning, or a child who needs an early night, has to keep up with the schedule instead of the schedule making room for them.
The real issue in the custom journey vs. package tour question is timing. A package is designed before anyone knows who will be on it, so it cannot account for a honeymoon, a milestone birthday, a pilgrimage, or a family traveling across three generations. A custom journey can, because it is designed after we know exactly who is coming.

How Access Travel's Planning Process Works
The process is easy to follow, and it was built so that the complicated parts stay on our side of the table.
1. A conversation about you before a conversation about places. Every private journey begins with a consultation with an Access Expert. You can reach the team by email, WhatsApp, or Viber, schedule a call, or visit the Access Travel Concierge at The Travel Club in Rockwell, Makati. The first questions are about pace, who is traveling, what a good day looks like to you, and what you would rather never do on a trip again.
2. A preliminary proposal drawn from firsthand experience. Your Access Expert prepares a preliminary quotation and a draft itinerary. The recommendations come from places our founder Angely Dub and the team have visited themselves, and from local partners Access has worked with for years. Angely has traveled to more than 150 countries across all seven continents, so your draft reflects how a route actually feels on the ground, not just how it looks on a map. You can read more about the team on our About page.
3. Refinement until it reads like your trip. We can adjust each day to your preferences. You can request hotels, cars, and attractions, and many of our signature itineraries can be set at different levels of accommodation. This is the stage where a free afternoon appears, a long drive gets broken into two shorter ones, or a dinner reservation moves to the night of your anniversary.
4. Confirmation and quiet preparation. Once the proposal is agreed and signed, a deposit secures your journey, and you settle full payment 30 days before departure. You can pay through USD or PHP bank deposit, by card, or in installments if you hold a BDO card. If you need a tourist visa, Access can process it as part of your booking.
5. Support from departure until you are home. On the ground, you travel with professionally trained local guides and drivers, and your Access team stays reachable throughout the trip. If a flight shifts or the weather changes the plan, we handle the adjustment and you hear about the solution rather than the problem.
What's Included in Every Journey
Specific inclusions depend on the itinerary you choose, and your Access Expert will confirm them in writing in your proposal. Most private journeys are built on the same foundation:
- Four-star to five-star hotel accommodations, chosen for location and character as much as rating
- Daily breakfast at your hotel
- Private transportation for the full duration of the trip
- A professional private local guide and driver
- Entrance fees to the attractions on your itinerary
- Local tourist taxes and permits
International airfare and personal travel insurance are typically quoted separately. Visa fees are also separate, and we can arrange visa processing when you book the full experience with us.
What a list cannot show is the thinking between the lines. On the Meet Morocco itinerary, for example, a long day inside the Fes medina ends with a night in a traditional riad, and the drive toward the Sahara is broken by a long lunch in Midelt so that you reach the desert camp rested instead of road-weary. That kind of sequencing is the part of a journey you never have to think about, which is exactly the point.
The same care extends to the people you travel with. Access coordinates wheelchairs for senior parents and grandparents through our local partners, adjusts honeymoon itineraries around the couple, and recommends private tours for families with young children so the day can follow their rhythm. You can browse current itineraries on the Private Tours page and treat any of them as a starting point.

Client Stories & Reviews
The clearest picture of a custom journey comes from the people who have taken one.
One client admitted she loves to travel but is "not the best planner," which describes many of the travelers who come to us. Another family decided on a trip to Japan extremely last minute and wrote that Access still made it happen. For the Gonzales family in the United States, the detail that stood out was having the team, along with local partners and guides in each city, on call whenever they needed them.
Some journeys simply could not exist as a package. Atty. Maria Esquivel's solo pilgrimage moved from Sacré-Cœur in Paris to Lourdes, then to the Black Madonna of Montserrat, La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, and Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza, a route shaped entirely around her intention for the trip. Carlo Dela Cruz has returned for a third private journey, most recently across Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. After a trip through Switzerland, Justine Cordova summed it up simply: everything felt "impeccably organized and tailored to my interests."
